    MONITORING DISTRIBUTED ENERGY SOURCES
    Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are defined as small scale decentralized power storage and generation sites (typically less than 10 Mega-Watts). In most cases, these DERs are owned and operated by consumers. As DERs change the nature of power flows through the local distribution system, it is critical that utilities are able to monitor these DER sources so that DER energy integration onto the grid happens smoothly without causing unwanted oscillations and so that power originating from DER sources can be taken into account (and isolated) from repair and maintenance activities (performed in nearby areas).
