National Grid Expands SMART Block® Deployments Across the U.S. and United Kingdom

Crossing the Atlantic

Following successful deployments across multiple applications in the United States, National Grid has expanded its use of Fischer Block's SMART Block® platform to additional operations in the United Kingdom, supporting transmission and grid interconnection monitoring. The technology is now being applied across distribution, wind, solar, transmission, and interconnection assets, where it has helped engineering teams identify numerous emerging system and equipment conditions before failure.

In Their Words

Reflecting on the operational value of the platform, National Grid Vice President of Operations Joe Melsha commented, “...it's the early detection we've been looking for in the industry for years and years. It's easy to install and improves equipment and plant availability. It is a win-win-win across the board.” The continued expansion across multiple operating companies and applications demonstrates National Grid's confidence in distributed electrical intelligence as a practical tool for improving grid reliability and asset performance.
